In a recent interview hosted by Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), Timothy, the managing and technical director of VEXT GAMES and a master's student in computer games development from MMU, shared insights into the creative journey behind Vextorial!

Introduction & Origins of Vextorial

Timothy introduced Vextorial as a game that allows players to switch between 2D and 3D modes, navigating puzzles that involve gravity manipulation and plane transitions. The game's innovative mechanics were born out of experimentation during a game programming course, evolving into a rich single-player experience with humorous dialogue and a thought-provoking narrative.

The Journey of VEXT GAMES

Timothy revealed the challenges the team faced, particularly in addressing niche mechanical issues like collisions when transitioning between planes. The team, comprising diverse members from various cultural and educational backgrounds, worked collaboratively to overcome these hurdles. Timothy, as the team leader and lead programmer, credited the transfuser program and MMU's supportive tutors for guidance on both technical and business aspects.

Reflecting on his personal growth, Timothy highlighted how managing a multicultural team enriched his leadership skills and contributed to the game’s success. He also shared his pride in the game’s unique mechanics and its potential to inspire players, drawing parallels to indie hits like Baba Is You and Patrick's Parabox.
